JOINT REPLACEMENT

Joint replacement surgery treats severe arthritis and conditions in the major joints of the body. Dr. Auer performs hip, knee and shoulder replacements and utilizes a rapid recovery protocol to improve patient outcomes. Hip and knee replacements are performed with muscle sparing approaches such as the direct anterior approach to the hop and the mid-vastus approach to the knee. He also performs partial knee replacements which utilize smaller incisions, remove less bone and preserve ligaments and tendons for faster recovery.

Surgical technology is improving at a rapid rate in our country. Dr. Auer utilizes the latest technological advances for joint replacement surgery. During hip replacements, he uses intraoperative imaging guidance to measure leg lengths to within a millimeter of perfect. He also uses a high mobility hip which prevents dislocations, decreases complications and improves the longevity of the hip replacement.

For knee replacements, Dr. Auer will use a 3D printed model of your knee to perform the "perfect cuts." This method replaces the robot surgery and is seen as the latest advance in joint replacement surgery. He also uses a medial pivot designed implant for knee replacements. This implant is the closest resemblance to the native knee anatomy. The state of the art design has been shown to improve stability, range of motion and decrease complications.

For shoulder replacements, Dr. Auer will commonly use a minimally invasive approach to the shoulder to spare the muscles of the shoulder. Utilizing this approach allows the shoulder to heal faster and prevent complications.
